Artist Statement
My paintings explore memories of people, places and things that move, thrill, and anger me. The subjects and symbols I use in my artwork are drawn from my everyday experiences, but also from forgotten memories.Feelings from the past or present surface through this process.
It is rare that I start the day knowing what I am going to paint, and it is not until I pick up a tool that I begin to connect to my work. The marks and shapes I use to tell my stories, whether made by blade, palette knife, brush or rag, come from within these places of memory. In life, some days feel like a replay, but other days are strangely new. When I revisit an earlier painting or I paint something new, I continue, or begin, from there.
