I work as an artist, writer, and graphic designer. As an artist I have shown my work at galleries in Maine, Connecticut, Beacon, NY, and New York City and I am delighted to be part of Hudson Open Studios. As a writer, I am the author of two books: the New York Times bestselling memoir PERFECTION and EVA AND EVE, a family memoir about my mother's escape from Nazi-occupied Vienna and emigration to the United States in 1940. I post essays about life and creating and women's issues on my Substack: CONSIDER THE SPIDER. I have published essays in the New York Times, Salon, Dame, Catapult, and Sari Botton's Substacks OLDSTER and MEMOIR LAND. I have lead memoir-writing workshops at Chautauqua and other organizations and work one-on-one with writers. I have received fellowships from The MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. As a graphic designer, I am the art director for She Writes Press, an imprint of Stable Book Group distributed by Simon & Schuster. I live in Hudson, NY with my partner and we are both engaged in local environmental politics.

Artist Statement

My paintings and drawings for Open Studio are abstract landscape forms inspired by the fundamental structures of earth, stone, water, and sky. I explore these elements with line and tone, inspired by places real and imagined, working in water-based media on paper.
