Isn’t it funny how life brings us full circle?

What began as Susan Domelsmith Cabral’s playful hobby—making jewelry for herself and friends—grew into Dirty Librarian Chains, a sustainable fashion brand. Her handcrafted pieces, created from vintage costume jewelry and deadstock American-made materials, were sold worldwide, worn by celebrities, and featured on the covers of major magazines.

After fifteen years of designing and producing her collection, the pace of business no longer aligned with her desire to slow down and raise her young child. Susan lovingly closed her studio, carefully packing away her materials without knowing why they still felt so important to keep. Nearly a decade later, those same chains and findings have found new purpose. Today, Susan transforms them into large-scale sculptural works—ornamental installations that adorn walls and buildings. With over two decades of experience in jewelry making, she continues her exploration of draped chain design, now reimagined on an architectural canvas.

Sustainability remains her inspiration: each sculpture is composed entirely of chains, beads, and jewelry findings collected during her years in fashion. The works are titled in reference to books and libraries, a nod to her brand’s origins and its wearable predecessors.

In 2017, Susan founded Clear Space Feng Shui, a consulting practice dedicated to bringing balance, function, and flow into homes and workspaces. Yet she has never lost her love for making jewelry with her hands. This new chapter—returning to her materials and reimagining them as sculpture—weaves together her passions for beauty, balance, and care for the planet.
